What is Book Coaching?
Book coaching is a combination of project management and developmental editing with teaching along the way. Before we begin we will have time to talk about the specific goals for your manuscript. We will develop a plan together to address your goals and help you reach them. We will set up a schedule that works for us both; I suggest twice monthly. You will have an assignment to work on before our next meeting and send me your work before we meet. That provides me time to read and give thoughtful feedback utilizing Word’s Track Changes and Comments features. During our hour-long coaching calls we will discuss your writing, my feedback, as well as your goals and next steps.
Book coaching will help you navigate your story ideas. I will give expert feedback and practical advice to help you create your story and enjoy writing. Coaching can be utilized to help you plan and outline your book, write your book, and revise your book.

What Does Book Coaching Look Like?
Step 1: Discovery Call: We talk about where your manuscript is now, where you want it to go, and what kind of support you need.
Step 2: Onboarding: I send a questionnaire to learn more about your goals, your story, and your preferred schedule. You will have time to decide on how many coaching sessions you want to work with and the schedule for those sessions. Before we get started you will share with me your manuscript and any relevant documents that help me better understand it.
Step 3: Kickoff Meeting: We review your goals, map out a coaching plan, and set our first deadlines.
Step 4: The Coaching Process: You complete assignments between sessions, and I provide feedback through Word Track Changes and Comments before we meet again. During our coaching calls we will discuss my feedback, talk about how things are going so far, and adjust any goals for moving forward. I will send you off with your next assignment.
Step 5: Wrap-Up: We meet to review your progress, talk through next steps, and decide whether you are ready to move into editing, continue on your own, or extend coaching.

FAQ
Is book coaching the same as editing?
No, book coaching is different from editing. Editing focuses on a specific manuscript stage and usually involves a limited round or two of feedback, while book coaching is a longer, more collaborative process that helps you plan, draft, revise, and move your project forward over time. With book coaching, we work together to shape your manuscript based on your goals, your timeline, and the support you need most.
What makes you a good book coach?
Book coaching combines two things I love most: editing and teaching. My background in education helps me support writers with structure, encouragement, and practical next steps, and I enjoy tailoring feedback to each writer’s needs, goals, and learning style. I bring a collaborative, organized, and cheerleading approach to every project.
Who is book coaching best for?
Book coaching is a great fit for writers who want structure, feedback, and accountability, and a supportive partner as they move through drafting or revision. It is especially helpful if you want to make steady progress without feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
What genres does book coaching work for?
Book coaching can support writers in many genres, including fiction, nonfiction, and memoir. I especially enjoy working with psychological thrillers, fantasy, and memoir, and I’m always happy to support authors in other genres as well.
How many sessions of book coaching will I need?
The number of sessions depends on where your manuscript is and what you want to accomplish. Many clients start with twice-monthly sessions for at least three months, or six sessions, but I’ll help you decide what makes the most sense for your project during our consultation.
What does a book coaching call look and sound like?
Book coaching calls are virtual and conversational. We’ll talk through your progress, review the feedback from your last assignment, and make decisions about your next steps together. I’ll share feedback in a kind, constructive way, and you’ll leave each call with clarity, encouragement, and an action plan.
I’m interested, but I still have questions.
