About Me – My Story
Hi, I’m Stephanie, the owner of Wheeless Edits. I’m a Hampton Roads editor and book coach who helps authors strengthen their manuscripts through thoughtful copyediting and collaborative support. As a Hampton Roads editor and book coach, I help authors refine their manuscripts with clear, supportive feedback that respects their voice. I work with writers who want clear editorial feedback, a trusted teammate, and a smoother path through the next stage of their project. My favorite projects often include fantasy, psychological thrillers, and memoir, but I am glad to work with all kinds of writing from authors at every stage.
Being based in Hampton Roads, I teach at the Muse Writers Center in Norfolk and serve as the EFA Virginia Chapter Coordinator, which keeps me closely connected to the local writing community and the writers I love to support.
Books I Love
I have loved books since childhood, when bedtime meant reading with my parents long before I could read on my own. From Go, Dog. Go! to A Series of Unfortunate Events, Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Twilight, and Divergent, reading has always been a way of life for me. In high school, I fell in love with books like The Great Gatsby and Their Eyes Were Watching God, and in college I deepened that love through linguistics and children’s literature. My years as an elementary school teacher gave me the joy of sharing stories with young readers and sharpened my understanding of how words shape learning and connection.
New Career
As my career in education grew, I realized I wanted to create more time for the work I loved most: reading, language, and helping others grow. I began looking for a career that would combine those passions, and I found it in editing. After completing the rigorous Copyediting Certificate program at the University of California San Diego, I knew I had found the right path.
As a copyeditor and book coach, I combine a love of words with a commitment to helping authors refine their work. I believe good editing should be clear, respectful, and practical, giving writers the support they need to produce their best work.
I believe good editing should feel supportive, not discouraging. My goal is to help authors strengthen their work while protecting their voice, their vision, and the heart of their story. Your voice matters, your story matters, and your reader matters.

I am adept at communicating feedback in an approachable, positive, and growth-oriented way. I am also detail-oriented, excellent with time management, and have the ability to tailor my feedback to individual learning and personality types.
More About Me
When I’m not editing, I’m usually reading, watching a favorite show with my husband, or spending time with my family. I also love guinea pigs, true crime podcasts, learning how things work, and getting outside with my family at the pool, the beach, or in the small town where my grandparents grew up.
My work with local Virginia writers, literary organizations, and community groups helps me stay grounded in the real questions authors are asking as they prepare their manuscripts for readers. I’m always open to speaking with local libraries, writing groups, and community organizations about editing, revising, and the publishing process.
