About Me – My Story
Hi! My name is Stephanie and I am the owner of Wheeless Edits, and a Hampton Roads editor and book coach.
Books I Love
I have had a love of books from a very young age. I remember spending every night reading with my parents at bedtime before I could read on my own. I can still remember reading my first book by myself, Go, Dog. Go!
I loved reading picture books as a child; switched to chapter book series’ as a middle aged reader; from A Series of Unfortunate Events, to the Harry Potter series, and even into historical fiction with the Dear America series. I became obsessed with young adult dystopian and fantasy series with The Hunger Games, Twilight, and Divergent. During high school I fell in love with books like The Great Gatsby and Their Eyes Were Watching God.
College studies had me fall in love with everything about linguistics and children’s literature. And finally getting to share my love of reading with my students as an elementary school teacher seemed to be the culmination of it all.
New Career
I read non stop as a child, teen, and young adult. I realized that as I got further into my career as an educator that I was losing the time to enjoy what I loved most, reading. My TBR pile grew and grew with little time for me to enjoy time to read.
I decided to search for a way to combine my love of words and books with my desire for a new career.
I realized that my bachelor’s degree (BA) in Psychology, master’s degree (MA) in Teaching, and elementary educator teaching license didn’t match up with the new career I was trying to pursue. I came across the highly respected and rigorous Copyediting Certificate program through University of California San Diego. I completed the program and found that I was in love with editing!
I found that as an editor, I can combine my passion for reading and words with my desire to help others improve and refine their skills to achieve their dreams.

The main thing is that you have a good editor – one that believes in you and who will give you the feedback that you need to produce a good book.

My Editing Philosophy
I believe that your voice matters, your story matters, and there is an audience ready to read your work. You have already completed the hard work by composing or starting your story.
As a reader, I love to consume new worlds, information, and stories. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed writing in college and post graduate courses, but I am not confident enough in my ideas to be an author myself. I would love to help you embrace the confidence I lack by helping you refine your work.
By working with me I will ensure that your work is error free, clear, and concise for your readers. I pride myself on being organized and effective with both project and time management. I will offer clear and supportive feedback along our journey together. I love to work collaboratively to help others achieve their dreams. I cannot wait to become your teammate and biggest cheerleader!
I am adept at communicating feedback in an approachable, positive, and growth oriented way. I am also detail-oriented, excellent with time management, and have the ability to tailor my feedback to individual learning and personality types.
